RESUMO

Low-temperature processed electron transport layer (ETL) of TiO2 that is widely used in planar perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has inherent low carrier mobility, resulting in insufficient photogenerated electron transport and thus recombination loss at buried interface. Herein, we demonstrate an effective strategy of laser embedding of p-n homojunctions in the TiO2 ETL to accelerate electron transport in PSCs, through localized build-in electric fields that enables boosted electron mobility by two orders of magnitude. Such embedding is found significantly helpful for not only the enhanced crystallization quality of TiO2 ETL, but the fabrication of perovskite films with larger-grain and the less-trap-states. The embedded p-n homojunction enables also the modulation of interfacial energy level between perovskite layers and ETLs, favoring for the reduced voltage deficit of PSCs. Benefiting from these merits, the formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) PSCs employing such ETLs deliver a champion efficiency of 25.50%, along with much-improved device stability under harsh conditions, i.e., maintain over 95% of their initial efficiency after operation at maximum power point under continuous heat and illumination for 500 h, as well as mixed-cation PSCs with a champion efficiency of 22.02% and over 3000 h of ambient storage under humidity stability of 40%. Present study offers new possibilities of regulating charge transport layers via p-n homojunction embedding for high performance optoelectronics.

Pyroptosis is closely related to the development and treatment of various cancers; thus, comprehensive studies of the correlations between pyroptosis and its inductive or inhibitive factors can provide new ideas for the intervention and diagnosis of tumors. The dysfunction of mitochondria may induce pyroptosis in cancer cells, which can be reflected by the fluctuations of the microenvironmental parameters in mitochondria as well as the changes of mitochondrial DNA level and morphology, etc. To precisely track and assess the mitochondria-associated pyroptosis process, simultaneous visualization of changes in multiphysiological parameters in mitochondria is highly desirable. In this work, we reported a nonreaction-based, multifunctional small-molecule fluorescent probe Mito-DK with the capability of crosstalk-free response to polarity and mtDNA as well as mitochondrial morphology. Accurate assessment of mitochondria-associated pyroptosis induced by palmitic acid/H2O2 was achieved through monitoring changes in mitochondrial multiple parameters with the help of Mito-DK. In particular, the pyroptosis-inducing ability of an antibiotic doxorubicin and the pyroptosis-inhibiting capacity of an anticancer agent puerarin were evaluated by Mito-DK. These results provide new perspectives for visualizing mitochondria-associated pyroptosis and offer new approaches for screening pyroptosis-related anticancer agents.

G0775, an arylomycin-type SPase I inhibitor that is being evaluated in a preclinical study, exhibited potent antibacterial activities against some Gram-negative bacteria but meanwhile suffered defects such as a narrow antibacterial spectrum and poor pharmacokinetic properties. Herein, systematic structural modifications were carried out, including optimization of the macrocyclic skeleton, warheads, and lipophilic regions. The optimization culminated in the discovery of 138f, which showed more potent activity and a broader spectrum against clinically isolated carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, especially against Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 162, the free amine of 138f, exhibited an excellent pharmacokinetic profile in rats. In a neutropenic mouse thigh model of infection with multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa, the potent in vivo antibacterial efficacy of 162 was confirmed and superior to that of G0775 (3.5-log decrease vs 1.1-log decrease in colony-forming unit (CFU)). These results support 162 as a potential antimicrobial agent for further research.

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common pathological subtype, with adenocarcinoma being the predominant type. FAT atypical cadherin 1 (FAT1) is a receptor-like protein with a high frequency of mutations in lung adenocarcinoma. The protein encoded by FAT1 plays a crucial role in processes such as cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. This study aims to investigate the expression of FAT1 in lung adenocarcinoma and its relationship with immune infiltration. METHODS: Gene expression levels and relevant clinical information of 513 lung adenocarcinoma samples and 397 adjacent lung samples were obtained through The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) data. The mRNA expression levels of the FAT1 gene in lung adenocarcinoma tissues were analyzed, along with its association with the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Pathway enrichment analysis was conducted to explore the signaling pathways regulated by the FAT1 gene. Immunoblotting was used to detect the differential expression of FAT1 in lung epithelial cells and various lung cancer cell lines, while immunohistochemistry was employed to assess FAT1 expression in lung cancer and adjacent tissues. RESULTS: FAT1 gene mutations were identified in 14% of lung adenocarcinoma patients. TCGA database data revealed significantly higher FAT1 mRNA expression in lung adenocarcinoma tissues compared to adjacent lung tissues. Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated lower survival rates in lung adenocarcinoma patients with higher FAT gene expression. Pathway enrichment analysis suggested the involvement of FAT1 in tumor development pathways, and its expression was closely associated with immune cell infiltration. Immunohistochemical validation demonstrated significantly higher expression of FAT1 in cancer tissues compared to adjacent lung tissues. CONCLUSIONS: FAT1 mRNA is highly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma tissues, and elevated FAT1 mRNA expression is associated with poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma patients. FAT1 may serve as a potential biomarker for lung cancer.

Objective: We explore the endoscopic revision and surgical techniques for L4/5 recurrent disc herniation (rLDH) after percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal discectomy (PETD). Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. From January 2016 to September 2022, 96 patients who underwent percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy for L4/5 rLDH after PETD were enrolled in the study. Based on the revision approach, the patients were divided into PETD group (57 cases) and percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) group (39 cases). Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for back and leg pain, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and modified MacNab standard were recorded to evaluate the clinical outcomes. Results: No significant differences were found in the demographic data and intraoperative blood loss between the two groups (P>0.05), but the time of operation and intraoperative X-ray fluoroscopy exposures in the PEID group were significantly less than that in the PETD group (P<0.05). The patients' postoperative clinical indexes gradually improved, and the VAS score, ODI index, and JOA score of the patients in both groups showed significant improvement compared with the preoperative period at the 1-week, 1-month, and 6-month postoperative follow-ups (P < 0.05). There was no serious complication observed during the follow-up. Conclusion: For recurrent LDH after PETD of L4/5 segments, percutaneous endoscopic revision can achieve satisfactory results. Among them, PEID has a shorter operative and fluoroscopy time and allows avoidance of the scar that forms after the initial surgery, so it can be considered preferred when both procedures can remove the disk well. However, for some specific types of herniation, a detailed surgical strategy is required.

Melittin, a classical antimicrobial peptide, is a highly potent antitumor agent. However, its significant toxicity seriously hampers its application in tumor therapy. In this study, we developed novel melittin analogs with pH-responsive, cell-penetrating and membrane-lytic activities by replacing arginine and lysine with histidine. After conjugation with camptothecin (CPT), CPT-AAM-1 and CPT-AAM-2 were capable of killing tumor cells by releasing CPT at low concentrations and disrupting cell membranes at high concentrations under acidic conditions. Notably, we found that the C-terminus of the melittin analogs was more suitable for drug conjugation than the N-terminus. CPT-AAM-1 significantly suppressed melanoma growth in vivo with relatively low toxicity. Collectively, the present study demonstrates that the development of antitumor drugs based on pH-responsive antimicrobial peptide-drug conjugates is a promising strategy.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) represents a prevalent subtype of non-small cell lung cancer with a complex molecular landscape. Dysregulated cellular energetics, notably the interplay between hypoxia and glycolysis, has emerged as a hallmark feature of LUAD tumorigenesis and progression. In this study, we aimed to identify hypoxia and glycolysis related gene signatures and construct a prognostic model to enhance the clinical management of LUAD. Methods: A gene signature associated with hypoxia and glycolysis was established within the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort and subsequently validated in the GSE31210 cohort. Additionally, a nomogram was formulated to aid in predictive modeling. Subsequently, an evaluation of the tumor microenvironment and immune checkpoints expression levels was conducted to discern disparities between low risk and high risk groups. Lastly, an exploration for drugs with potential effectiveness was carried out. Results: Our analyses revealed a distinct hypoxia and glycolysis related gene signature consisting of 6 genes significantly associated with LUAD patient survival. Integration of these genes into the prognostic model demonstrated superior predictive accuracy for patient outcomes. Furthermore, we developed a user-friendly nomogram that effectively translates the model's prognostic information into a practical tool for clinical decision-making. Conclusion: This study elucidates the critical role of hypoxia and glycolysis related genes in LUAD and offers a novel prognostic model with promising clinical utility. This model has the potential to refine risk stratification and guide personalized therapeutic interventions, ultimately improving the prognosis of LUAD patients.

A paper-based ratiometric fluorescent sensing platform has been developed for glucose detection based on a dual-emission fluorescent probe consisting of carbon quantum dots (C QDs) and CdTe QDs. When the two kinds of QDs are mixed, the fluorescence of C QDs is reversibly quenched by CdTe QDs. However, in the presence of glucose, the fluorescence of CdTe QDs is quenched by H2O2 catalyzed by glucose oxidase (GOx), which restores the fluorescence of C QDs. The proposed paper-based ratiometric fluorescent sensing platform exhibited good sensitivity and selectivity towards glucose. The working linear range was 0.1 mM to 50 mM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.026 mM. Additionally, the proposed paper-based sensor possesses viability for the determination of glucose in actual urine samples.

Tobacco grown in areas with high-geochemical backgrounds exhibits considerably different cadmium (Cd) bioaccumulation abilities due to regional disparities and environmental changes. However, the impact of key factors on the Cd bioaccumulation ability of tobacco grown in the karst regions with high selenium (Se) geochemical backgrounds is unclear. Herein, 365 paired rhizospheric soil-grown tobacco samples and 321 topsoil samples were collected from typical karst tobacco-growing soil in southwestern China and analyzed for Cd and Se. XGBoost was used to predict and evaluate the Cd bioaccumulation ability of tobacco and potential influencing factors. Results showed that regional geochemical characteristics, such as soil Cd and Se contents, soil type, and lithology, have the highest influence on the Cd bioaccumulation ability of tobacco, accounting for 46.5% of the overall variation. Moreover, soil Se contents in high-geochemical background areas considerably affect Cd bioaccumulation in tobacco, with a threshold for the mutual suppression effects of Cd and Se at a soil Se content of 0.8 mg/kg. According to the results of bivariate local indicators of spatial association analysis, tobacco cultivated in the central, northeast, and southeast regions of Zunyi City carries a lower risk of soil Cd contamination. This study provides new insights for managing tobacco cultivation in karst regions.

OBJECTIVE: Traditional manual OLIF combined with pedicle screw implantation has many problems of manual percutaneous screw implantation, such as high difficulty of screw placement, many fluoroscopies, long operation time, and many adjustments, resulting in greater trauma. The robot can perform various types of screw placement in the lateral recumbent position, which allows OLIF combined with posterior screw placement surgery to be completed in a single position. To compare the screw accuracy and initial postoperative results of oblique anterior lumbar fusion with robot-assisted screw placement in the lateral position and screw placement in the prone position for the treatment of lumbar spondylolisthesis. METHODS: From May to June 2022, 45 patients with single-segment lumbar spondylolisthesis underwent Mazor X-assisted oblique lumbar fusion in one position and Renaissance-assisted surgery in two different positions, and screw accuracy was assessed on computed tomography scans according to a modified Gertzbein-Robbins classification. Patients were divided into a single position group and a bipedal position group (the lateral position for complete oblique lumbar fusion and then changed to the prone position for posterior screw placement), and the perioperative parameters, including operative time, number of fluoroscopies, and operative complications, were recorded separately. The results of the clinical indicators, such as the visual analog scale (VAS) for back and leg pain and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, were obtained. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in the patients' demographic data between the two groups. The single position group had a shorter operative time and fewer fluoroscopies than the bipedal position group; the single position group had a higher percentage of screw accuracy at the A level than the bipedal position group, but there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups at the acceptable level (A + B) (p > 0.05). The single-position group had better outcomes at the 1-week postoperative follow-up back pain VAS scores (p < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the postoperative leg pain VAS scores or the ODI scores when compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Robot-assisted lateral position oblique lumbar interbody fusion with pedicle screw placement has the same accuracy as prone positioning. Single position surgery can significantly shorten the operation time and reduce the fluoroscopy. There was no significant difference in the long-term efficacy between the two groups.

PURPOSE: To compare the outcomes and characteristics of oblique lumbar interbody fusion stand-alone (OLIF-SA) and OLIF with posterior pedicle screw fixation (OLIF-PPS) in the treatment of Grade I or Grade II degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between January 2019 and May 2022, 139 patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis were treated with OLIF-SA (n = 85) or OLIF-PPS (n = 54). The clinical and radiographic records were reviewed. RESULTS: The clinical and radiographic outcomes were similar in both groups. The operative time and intraoperative blood loss in the OLIF-SA group were lower than those in the OLIF-PPS group (P < 0.05). However, the OLIF-PPS group had significantly better disc height (DH) and postoperative forward spondylolisthesis distance (FSD) improvement at 6 months (P < 0.05). The OLIF-PPS group had a significantly lower cage subsidence value than the OLIF-SA group (P < 0.05). Improvement of the lumbar lordotic angle (LA) and fusion segmental lordotic angle (FSA) in the OLIF-PPS group was significantly better than that in the OLIF-SA group (P < 0.05). In terms of fusion types, the OLIF-SA group tended to undergo fusion from the edge of the vertebral body. Fusion in the OLIF-PPS group began more often in the bone graft area of the central cage of the vertebral body. The fusion speed of the OLIF-SA group was faster than that of the OLIF-PPS group. CONCLUSION: OLIF-SA has the advantages of a short operative time, less intraoperative blood loss, and reduced financial burden, while PPS has incomparable advantages in the reduction of spondylolisthesis, restoration of lumbar physiological curvature, and long-term maintenance of intervertebral DH. In addition, the SA group had a unique vertebral edge fusion method and faster fusion speed.

Cement solidification is essential to reduce heavy metal leaching from industrial sludge and make it recyclable. This paper studied the effect of aggregate grading optimized by sludge containing heavy metal of different particle sizes on the performance of baking-free sludge bricks, which was mixed with industrial sludge cured by both micro-silica fume and cement. First, the gradation of fine natural aggregates was adjusted according to the Fuller curve. Fine aggregates in baking-free bricks were replaced by artificially processed sludge with particle sizes of 0.15 mm ~0.3 mm and 2.36 mm ~4.75 mm. In this case, a mixed proportion scheme was designed. Then, the strength, water absorption, porosity, and heavy metal leaching were measured. With the help of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the phase and pore structures were observed. The test results showed that: (1) Sludge can replace part of the fine aggregates to make baking-free bricks, resulting in the reduction of the strength of baking-free bricks, but the strength still meets the standard strength requirements of GB/T 21,144-2007. (2) When fine aggregates are partly replaced by sludge with finer particle sizes, baking-free sludge bricks exhibit higher strength, lower water absorption, better pore structures and microphase structure, and stronger solidification of heavy metals, the leaching number of heavy metals meets the standard requirements of GB5085.3-2007, which will be provided support for actual industrial production.Implications: Cement solidification is an essential means to reduce the heavy metal leaching from industrial sludge and make it recyclable. This paper studied sludge containing heavy metal of different particle sizes on the performance of baking-free sludge bricks. This paper analyzed the compressive strength, porosity and water absorption of baking-free bricks mixed with sludge of different partical sizes, and adopted the NMR to characterize the pores of baking-free bricks, and the SEM to observe the baking-free bricks resultants and the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The heavy metal leaching test verified the environmental benefits of baking-free bricks mixed with sludge instead of aggregates. There not only make full use of solid wastes, but also thus minimizing pollution to the environment, which provide support for actual industrial production and a reference for studying industrial sludge recycling technology.

We theoretically explore the conditions for generating optical bistability (OB) in a heterodimer comprised of a semiconductor quantum dot (SQD) and a metallic nanoshell (MNS). The MNS is made of a metallic nanosphere as a core and a dielectric material as a shell. For the specific hybrid system considered, the bistable effect appears only if the frequency of the pump field is equal to (or slightly less than) the exciton frequency for a proper shell thickness. Bistability phase diagrams, when plotted, show that the dipole-induced bistable region can be greatly broadened by changing the shell thickness of the MNS in a strong exciton-plasmon coupling regime. In particular, we demonstrate that the multipole polarization not only narrows the bistable zone but also enlarges the corresponding thresholds for a given intermediate scaled pumping intensity. On the other hand, when the SQD couples strongly with the MNS, the multipole polarization can also significantly broaden the bistable region and induce a great suppression of the FWM (four-wave mixing) signal for a fixed shell thickness. These interesting findings offer a fresh understanding of the bistability conditions in an SQD/MNS heterodimer, and may be useful in the fabrication of high-performance and low-threshold optical bistable nanodevices.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is often accompanied by cognitive dysfunction, which imposes a heavy burden on patients, their families, and society. Early identification and intervention are particularly important, but reliable biomarkers for identifying PD-related cognitive impairment at an early stage are currently lacking. Although numerous clinical studies have investigated the association between brain white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and cognitive decline, the findings regarding the relationships between WMH and cognitive dysfunction in PD patients have been inconsistent. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a meta-analysis of the effect of WMH on PD cognitive function. Methods: This study was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) guidelines. We systematically searched relevant literature from databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CNKI, and CBM. The retrieval time was limited to database records created up until December 31, 2022. Additionally, we manually retrieved references for full-text reading. Statistical data analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 and Stata 15.0 software. Results: This study encompassed 23 individual studies and involved 2,429 patients with PD. The group of PD with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) exhibited a significantly higher overall level of WMH than the group of PD with normal cognitive function (PD-NC) (SMD = 0.37, 95% CI: 0.21-0.52, p < 0.01). This finding was consistent across subgroup analyses based on different ethnicities (Asian or Caucasian), WMH assessment methods (visual rating scale or volumetry), and age matching. In addition to the overall differences in WMH load between the PD-MCI and PD-NC groups, the study found that specific brain regions, including periventricular white matter hyperintensity (PVH) and deep white matter hyperintensity (DWMH), had significantly higher WMH load in the PD-MCI group compared to the PD-NC group. The study also conducted a meta-analysis of WMH load data for PD with dementia (PDD) and PD without dementia (PDND), revealing that the overall WMH load in the PDD group was significantly higher than that in the PDND group (SMD = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.56-1.41, p < 0.01). This finding was consistent across subgroup analyses based on different ethnicities and age matching. Moreover, regarding specific brain regions (PVH or DWMH), the study found that the PDD group had significantly higher WMH load than the PDND group (p < 0.01). Conclusion: WMH was associated with PD cognitive dysfunction. The early appearance of WMH may indicate PD with MCI.

The practical significance of constructing robust industrial production strains against organic acid stress lies not only in improving fermentation efficiency but also in reducing manufacturing costs. In a previous study, we constructed an industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain by modifying another PEP4-allele of a mutant that already had one PEP4-allele disrupted. This modification enhanced cellular tolerance to citric acid stress during growth. Unlike citric acid, which S. cerevisiae can consume, tartaric acid is often added to grape must during winemaking to increase total acidity and is not metabolizable. The results of the present study indicate that the modification of the second PEP4-allele improves the cellular tolerance of the strain with one PEP4-allele disrupted against tartaric acid stress during growth and contributes to maintaining intracellular pH homeostasis in cells subjected to tartaric acid stress. Moreover, under tartaric acid stress, a significant improvement in glucose-ethanol conversion performance, conferred by the modification of the second PEP4-allele, was observed. This study not only broadens our understanding of the role of the PEP4-allele in cellular regulation but also provides a prospective approach to reducing the concentration of sulfur dioxide used in winemaking.

The near-space atmosphere is thin, and the atmospheric refraction and scattering on optical observation is very small, making it very suitable for wide-area and high-resolution surveillance using high-altitude balloon platforms. This paper adopts a 9344 × 7000 CMOS sensor to obtain high-resolution images, generating large-field-of-view imaging through the swing scanning of the photoelectric sphere and image stitching. In addition, a zoom lens is designed to achieve flexible applications for different scenarios, such as large-field-of-view and high-resolution imaging. The optical design results show that the camera system has good imaging quality within the focal length range of 320 mm-106.7 mm, and the relative distortion values at different focal lengths are less than 2%. The flight results indicate that the system can achieve seamless image stitching at a resolution of 0.2 m@20 km and the imaging field of view angle exceeds 33°. This system will perform other near-space flight experiments to verify its ultra-wide (field of view exceeding 100°) high-resolution imaging application.

Noble metal nanoparticles are widely used as co-catalysts for storing and separating electrons in semiconductor photocatalysis. Thus, evaluating this ability is important and meaningful to understand the photocatalytic mechanism. Employing Ag nanoparticles, the present study combined in situ photoconductance and theoretical analysis to evaluate the Fermi-level (EF) shift in a UV-illuminated Ag/TiO2 system under gaseous conditions. Based on this, the role of the Ag nanoparticles in storing and separating electrons was discussed. It was found that the EF of Ag/TiO2 is located deeper in the gap and a variation in temperature has less effect on the EF of Ag/TiO2 compared to the undecorated TiO2. The analysis showed that ∼46 electrons can be stored in 10 nm Ag nanoparticles under our experimental conditions, which does not change with temperature. The electron traps in TiO2 can affect the electron distribution in the TiO2 and Ag nanoparticles. It was observed that the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of the Ag nanoparticles exhibited a blue-shift under UV light illumination, which is generally ascribed to the electron storage in the Ag nanoparticles. However, we showed that the blue-shift is not related to the electron storage in the Ag nanoparticles, and thus it cannot be used as an indicator for evaluating their electron-storage ability. The in situ XPS analysis also does not support that the LSPR blue shift is associated with the reduction in the Ag2O layer and TiO2.

Background/objective: We retrospectively analyzed the effective and safety of continuous low-dose cyclophosphamide combined with prednisone (CP) in relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) patients with severe complications. Methods: A total of 130 RRMM patients with severe complications were enrolled in this study, among which 41 patients were further given bortezomib, lenalidomide, thalidomide or ixazomib on the basis of CP regimen (CP+X group). The response to therapy, adverse events (AEs), overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were recorded. Results: Among the 130 patients, 128 patients received therapeutic response assessment, with a complete remission rate (CRR) and objective response rate (ORR) of 4.7% and 58.6%, respectively. The median OS and PFS time were (38.0 ± 3.6) and (22.9±5.2) months, respectively. The most common AEs were hyperglycemia (7.7%), pneumonia (6.2%) and Cushing's syndrome (5.4%). In addition, we found the pro-BNP/BNP level was obviously decreased while the LVEF (left ventricular ejection fraction) was increased in RRMM patients following CP treatment as compared with those before treatment. Furthermore, CP+X regimen further improved the CRR compared with that before receiving the CP+X regimen (24.4% vs. 2.4%, P=0.007). Also, both the OS and PFS rates were significantly elevated in patients received CP+X regimen following CP regimen as compared with the patients received CP regimen only. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the metronomic chemotherapy regimen of CP is effective to RRMM patients with severe complications.

Flexible wearable sensors to monitor human movement and for electronic skins must exhibit high sensitivity, a wide detection range, and waterproof characteristics. This work reports a flexible, highly sensitive, and waterproof sponge pressure sensor (SMCM). The sensor is made by assembling SiO2 (S), MXene (M), and NH2-CNTs (C) on the backbone of melamine sponge (M). The SMCM sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity (10.8 kPa-1), an ultra-short response/recovery time (40 ms/60 ms), a wide detection range (30 kPa), and an extremely low detection limit (4.6 Pa). Benefiting from layer-by-layer self-assembly, the sensor still exhibits excellent stability after 5000 cycles. In addition, the SMCM sensor also has excellent waterproof performance (a water contact angle of 142°), enabling it to operate unaffectedly under wet conditions. The SMCM sensor can accurately detect small body movements such as pulse and swallowing while also accurately detecting finger and elbow movements. In addition, the sensor can be designed as an array to construct an electronic skin for detecting the magnitude and distribution of external pressure. This work holds great application potential in next-generation electronic skin, fitness detection, and flexible pressure sensors.

Electron transport layers (ETLs) with pronounced electron conducting capability are essential for high performance planar perovskite photovoltaics, with the great challenge being that the most widely used metal oxide ETLs unfortunately have intrinsically low carrier mobility. Herein is demonstrated that by simply addressing the carrier loss at particle boundaries of TiO2 ETLs, through embedding in ETL p-n heterointerfaces, the electron mobility of the ETLs can be boosted by three orders of magnitude. Such embedding is encouragingly favorable for both inhibiting the formation of rutile phase TiO2 in ETL, and initiating the growth of high-quality perovskite films with less defect states. By virtue of these merits, creation of formamidinium lead iodide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with a champion efficiency of 25.05% is achieved, setting a new benchmark for planar PSCs employing TiO2 ETLs. Unencapsulated PSCs deliver much-improved environmental stability, i.e., more than 80% of their initial efficiency after 9000 h of air storage under RH of 40%, and over 90% of their initial efficiency at maximum power point under continuous illumination for 500 h. Further work exploring other p-type nanocrystals for embedding warrants the proposed strategy as a universal alternative for addressing the low-carrier mobility of metal oxide based ETLs.
